The StarTarot card meaning

  • hope
  • renewal
  • inspiration
  • healing

The Star upright

After the storm, quiet hope and healing return. Trust that you're being guided toward renewal.

In a yes or no tarot reading: Yes

Hope, healing, and renewal are on your side. A gentle but genuine yes.

The Star reversed

Discouragement or a loss of faith is clouding your hope. It's hard to see the light right now, but it hasn't gone out.

In a yes or no tarot reading: Leaning no

Discouragement is clouding what's possible. The door isn't closed, but your hope needs rebuilding first.

See what The Star says about your situation.

The Star is what comes after the storm. It follows The Tower in the deck, and it feels like the first clear night after a long run of bad weather. Quiet, open and hopeful.

It's a gentle card. It doesn't promise everything is fixed. It says healing has started, and that it's safe to hope again.

What the Star card shows

A naked woman kneels by a pool under a night sky. One knee rests on the ground and one foot touches the surface of the water. She pours water from two jugs: one back into the pool, one onto the land, where it splits into five little streams.

Above her shines one large eight-pointed yellow star, surrounded by seven smaller white ones. On a tree to the right sits a bird. Behind her, the land runs off to a distant hill.

Why she has nothing on

After the Tower, the falling figures lost everything, crowns and cloaks included. The woman on the Star has nothing left to hide. She isn't ashamed or guarded. She's just herself, out in the open.

That's part of the healing this card describes. Once the pretences are gone, there's a kind of relief. You don't have to keep anything up any more. You can start again from what's real.

The Star upright: hope comes back

Upright, things are getting better, slowly. You're recovering from a loss, a breakup, an illness, a rough year. Your energy is returning. You can picture a future again.

It's also a card of inspiration and purpose. Ideas come more easily. You feel more like yourself. Use that to set a direction, even a small one.

The Star reversed: hard to believe in anything

Reversed, hope is hard to find. You might feel flat, discouraged, or convinced that good things happen to other people. The star hasn't gone out. You've just stopped looking up.

Be gentle with yourself. Small things help more than big resolutions: one good conversation, a walk, a day without bad news. If the low feeling has lasted a long time, please talk to someone, a friend or a doctor, rather than waiting for it to lift.

Two jugs, two directions

Watch where the water goes. One jug pours back into the pool she's kneeling by. The other pours out onto the land, where it runs off in streams to places she'll never see.

It's a neat picture of recovery. Part of healing is refilling yourself, quietly, with nobody watching. Part of it is giving something back once you can. If you've been only giving, the Star asks you to tip the first jug for a while. If you've been only resting, it may be time to share what you've learned.

The Star in love

In love, The Star is gentle, sincere affection. A relationship that feels healing, or a new connection after a painful one. If you've been hurt, it says you'll be able to trust again.

Between partners, it marks a calmer, kinder phase, especially after a difficult stretch. Reversed, you may doubt that love can work out for you, and that doubt can make you hold back from something good.

Their feelings in the Star

Hopeful and genuine. They see something good in you, maybe even something that's helping them heal. Their feelings are soft rather than intense. Reversed, they may want to feel hopeful about you but feel too worn down or guarded to show it.

Work and money under the Star

At work, it favours creative projects, fresh starts after a setback, and work that feels meaningful. If a job loss or a failed project has knocked your confidence, this card says it's coming back. Public-facing work and anything that helps others suit it well.

With money, it points to recovery, slow and steady. Reversed, don't let discouragement stop you from making a plan. Small steps count.

The Star as advice

Let yourself hope. Pick one thing you'd like your life to have in a year and take one step toward it this week. Healing doesn't need to be dramatic to be real.

  • The Tower. The card before. The Star is the quiet that follows the Tower's storm.

  • The Moon. The card after. Hope gives way to a stretch of uncertainty, where you find your way by feel.

  • Temperance. Another water-pourer by a pool. Temperance balances carefully. The Star pours freely.

  • Six of Swords. Moving on from trouble toward calmer water. The Star is often where that boat lands.
